Cats

Awwwww...look at these adorable kitten bookends that I came across at Goodwill the other day.

***Aunt Peaches, please stop reading now***

Now I can say awwwww because these kittens aren't real.  A real kitten gives me the heebie jeebies and here is why.  The answer is actually two fold.

1.  Every time I saw a kitten when I was a kid,  my mom (a farm girl) would say, "Aaaarrrrrrggghhh! Don't you dare touch that strange cat, you could get ringworm!"  The dreaded ringworm.  That I DID get by riding my friends horse in shorts.  So there's that.

2.  My brother got a kitten once when we were kids.  It had some sort of disgusting illness that made it have diarrhea and then it died.  (Sorry if you just spit out your cornflakes.)  ringworm maybe?

And that is why this photo grosses me out. Amen.

Laws of attraction.

So a few months ago I was shopping with my friend Ashley and we came across these figurines of ugly 1970's children. So I blogged about it here.  Now fast forward about a month and a half and what do I come across in a DIFFERENT THRIFT STORE in an entirely DIFFERENT LOCATION?
What the heck?  Are these two following me?  Don't answer that.

What is up with the open mouthed children anyway?  1970's what was going on that this was considered cute?    Icchhhhhkkkk.

Those of you who are seasoned thrifters, have you noticed this phenomenon?  Once you find one weird thing you keep noticing it over and over?  I do!

*nightmares on the horizon I can just tell.

Power of Work

Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend Goodwill's Power of Work Luncheon.  I wish that every Goodwill shopper and donater could have been there to witness Goodwill's far reaching benefits.  I learned a lot more about Goodwill's programs in the Denver area.  I love to shop at Goodwill (clearly), and I donate there as well.  But like most of us I don't really think about where the money really goes.  It goes to helping real people make real changes in their lives through the Power of Work.  I recognized some of the awards recipients from shopping at all of the stores in the area.  Goodwill employees 1,200 people in the Denver area and helps thousands more get jobs and hopefully turn their jobs into long term meaningful employment.  Your purchases and donations really do fund amazing programs that help individuals in so many thoughtful and impactful ways.

Buying my dress and shoes at Goodwill helped someone make positives changes in their lives, and I felt great wearing an outfit that was saved from a landfill someplace.  Oh and I felt pretty cute too! (bonus)
