Fires in Colorado

We are so fortunate to live in a fire free area of Colorado. Our hearts go out to all of the families that have been evacuated or lost their homes in the destruction. The skies are a little smokey in the suburbs but not too bad. Thanks to all of my readers that have been concerned about my family. I appreciate all of the sweet notes.

My day in photos

I'm vacationing in sunny California at my parents house.  We always start out the day with a long walk in the amazing park by their house.  My mom has been walking with the same ladies for 25 years.

Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful in my dad's mowing shoes.....*Note to self...Need to buy dad a new mower.  That thing is tooo hard to push!
Yes, my mom asked me to bury the dog's ashes.  Brie (the dog) died yeeeeeaars ago.  But I said yes and dug the hole.  We put up a cross with her doggie tags.  My parents promised my sons that they would bury her in the yard.  So I did.

My parents have a beautiful forest in their back yard.
I swear my parents are running a spider sanctuary.  If you have arachnaphobia then you shouldn't move to central California.  The spiders out number the people 30-1. (at least)

I love doing floral arrangements so I made a lot of those.
My mom also lets me rearrange her stuff and redecorate anything I want.
See where I get my love of industrial chic?
 Fun fun fun!!!

There isn't enough medication on the planet...

Ok so I'm on a little va-cay to visit my family in Sunny California.  Did you know that I hate to fly.  No, I REALLY HATE IT.  Soo I made sure to take a "real airplane" not some 7 seat crop duster that normally flies into my home town.  I'm thinking that I'm in the all clear when my ears pop really hard during the flight.  Which was really weird because at the same time the lady next to me and the two men in front of me all grabbed their heads at the same time.  Everyone in the plane's ears popped all at once. Hmmmmm. So just then the flight attendant sits down quietly, puts on her seat belt and says,

"We are making an emergency landing, it seems as though we have a little crack in the windshield."

WTH?  Let me give you a little insight into the brain of a crazy person (me).  What do you mean little crack?  Wow those mountains look pretty smashy if you ask me.  Can we land on one of those mountains? I'm kind of scrawny they wouldn't eat me first right?  Is it tuck and roll or stop, drop and roll?   Oooohh emergency land at Salt Lake City airport?  No problem, I will just make my life in Salt Lake City so I don't have to fly ever again.  I will marry a polygamist and be a sister wife and call it a day.  Wait...what if I don't like my sister wives?  Can I be the "fun wife", I don't feel like being the parenting wife, or the working wife, or the cleaning wife, I already do that!!  Does it matter that I'm already married? I get a wife choice? That doesn't seem fair.

Maybe I could rent a car and drive the rest of the way. Nooooo I hate to drive, and I hate being a passenger even more.  Guess I will have to make a life for myself in Salt Lake City.  Good thing I blew my hair out this morning, at least I will look cute for this emergency landing, and my new life as a polygamist.
So the plane lands and I turn to look to see the "tiny crack" and this is what I saw.

Well I flew on to my destination with the help of a handfull of medication, deep breathing techniques, and a big heap of denial.   To be honest it was ssooo stressfull I don't remember switching planes or the rest of the trip. Goooooo brain injury/crazy tendencies!!!

Oh and THANKS United Airlines for the $25.00 gift certificate for my "inconvenience".  $25.00?  That covers about 15 minutes of the months of therapy that I will require to get on another airplane.

Fresh Laundry

I ordered the new Bluebell Collection from Mrs. Meyers.  It arrived quickly, and I couldn't wait to try it out.  Bluebell smells so clean and delicious.  I'm not sure what a real bluebell smells like but the cleaning products smell really fresh and summery.
My dryer conked out the other day so I got to do my laundry old school.  I hung it out on my Goodwill drying rack.  Now I want a good old fashioned clothesline, but I'm sure my neighbors don't want to see my unmentionables.  No we don't have fences in my neighborhood.
The laundry smelled soooo gooood.  The combination of Bluebell and sunshine smells like summertime.  The dryer is being fixed, but I might just continue to hang it outside.  You should try it.
This is what it looked like.
This is what I wished it looked like.

Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Pita Chips...Yumm

I was having the ladies over for Mahjong the other day, so I planned a lovely girly lunch for all of us to enjoy. And then I ate some tempura shrimp and the next 24 hours were a blur of bed-spins.
I tried to take a shower and even the water smelled funny.
What does this have to do with fruit salsa?   Everything, don't rush me.
I didn't have a chance to make the fancy salsa for Mahjong, so I made it for myself when I was feeling better.
There really is no recipe, just cut up some fruit, squeeze some lemon or lime, add about 1 tablespoon of apricot preserves, and you have a delish snack. Ok now grab some whole wheat pita chips, and cut them into wedges.
Use your little Misto gadget and spray the pita chips with olive oil...don't panic it's delicious.    Now comes the cinnamon sugar.  Yummm.
Bake at 450 for about 8 minutes and then check it.  I like my chips dark and crunchy! I found this great dish at the GDub. I love it!! It came with a glass dome like a cake plate. If you are a thrifter, do you ever wonder what will be the item that will qualify you as a hoader? Meeee toooo! There you go an adorable little dish with a yummy fruit salsa treat.
